What do you love most about running your own business?
The freedom. Running your own business allows you to do what you want, when you want. If I want to take a holiday with the family, I'll go right ahead and do it, no checking with the boss!
What website do you visit every day?
I visit Fourfourtwo Australia. I'm an absolute soccer fanatic, I can never get away from it! I'm a huge Chelsea FC supporter and I also play a bit myself.
What’s the cheapest, most effective bit of marketing you’ve ever done?
Keeping relationships with clients and making new ones through platforms like Flying Solo can really pay dividends to you and your business. The power of word-of-mouth and referral marketing is priceless.
What’s one habit you’d like to change?
Sometimes my friends call me a workaholic. I'll say to myself "Right Nick, you're going to get this job done by 6pm", usually I'll end up starting another project and staying in the office until 9 or 10pm. I have so much fun with the work I do, I just can't help it!
What’s the biggest challenge you face at work?
Getting other people to have the same motivation and enthusiasm for the company as I do myself.
What would be your advice to aspiring soloists?
Just go for it and never look back! It's the best thing you could do for yourself and your family.
What book are you reading?
The Thankyou Economy by Gary Vanyerchuk. Anyone who wants to learn how to use social media really effectively should read this book.
How would you describe yourself in three adjectives?
Fun, friendly and creative.
What's the best piece of business advice you've ever been given?
